Honestly, I'd stick with gift cards unless you have a really high-value item to list. The site is do dead right now you will be taking the chance of listing stuff that won't even sell for the value of free shipping.

One thing that can be fun to do is browse other listings, see what's really hot with bidders, and if you have something similar you'd like to list, get it listed before the current listing ends. That way people who get outbid on the popular item can have the chance to win it (or something similar) from you!

I'm always trying to strategize about listings because I can't stand spending a bunch of money for shipping if a listing ended really low. That can and will hurt after a while!

What say you ... my sister of the long-running Listia addicts!
