Description

The listing, 14 Raw Rubies from Myanmar, formerly Burma has ended.

14 Raw Rubies, I bought many moons ago while in Burma, now called Myanmar. I got them on the streets outside of Laos. They are small but perhaps can be tumbled to make nice jewelry pieces....Maybe even faceted....
A few interesting tid-bits:

Mogok in central Myanmar is the center of precious stones mining, stones with a "Pigeon's blood" color are the most valuable in terms of color. The precious stones have been found there for about 800 years.

Rubies are mined mainly via open mining or tunnel mining for a Burma ruby and Madagascar have lots of deposits on rubies and this are not just ordinary red stones. The rubies from Myanmar are the finest rubies that were ever mined, they also have very distinctive hair like inclusions named "Shu Taings" which give them a particular signature.

A Burma ruby stone is the red variety of corundum, a sister of Sapphire. Like Sapphire, Ruby is measured 9 on the Mohs scale of hardness, making it the second hardest material known after diamonds.

A ruby gemstone and cut and polished rubies in general have symbolized passion and romance for centuries. The gemstone is also the birthstone for month of July, and it is recommended for married couples celebrating their 15th and 40th wedding anniversary.

Also the color of blood, the stone is symbolic of courage and bravery. Warriors were said to have implanted Rubies under their skin to bring them valor in battle and make them invincible.

The most valuable rubies come from Myanmar, they are also known as Burmese ruby, but they are mined throughout Southeast Asia. Good quality rubies gemstone come from Thailand, but what is called Thai ruby has almost all the time a Myanmar golden Myanmar, means is smuggled in. Sri Lanka, and Vietnam. Madagascar is also becoming more important as a source for ruby. Unfortunately most of the rubies from Africa have inclusions that diminish their transparency and value.

I tumble so am thinking the 9 listing rubies look bigger (ruby size) am I right?

Yes, they do look bigger. There are also some big ones in the 14 and the other 9, that doesn't say 9 in the title.....it looks like ten. Some big (relatively) ones there too. I think you can gauge also with the ruler next to some of the stones. I would love to hear how they come out tumbled.....I was going to play with mine soon (not soon enough) and am very curious which way will work best since they are small. Good color though.....Thanks for asking....
