Description

The listing, ANTIQUE VINTAGE RELIGIOUS MEDAL MEDALLION ND DE HAL FRANCE~Gorgeous FREE SHIP* has ended.

This is a Vintage, or possibly Antique religious medal medallion, Pendant, that I have had for many years. It has been sitting in a Jewelry Box for years. I am trying-(although hard to part with, find a new home for some of mine)- NOTRE DAME DE HAL PRIEZ POUR NOUS.(Notre Dame Lady of Hal ~ Or From Hal/Pray For Us.) on the Reverse is The Sacred Heart. When researching it.to list, I found a very similar medal on eBay. It is French, there are Several stamps, Markings & a Signature which I could not make out, At both front & back left sides, lower of the Medal is stamped AP. This denotes the famed French Foundry. On the bail(not jump) is a "maker's mark" which I cannot make out with the magnification, I have. Measures: 1" x 1". Weighs: 4g or 0.1 ounce.

PLEASE NOTE: This is from another site where I found the absolute most similar Medal, with just about the same markings and size.
"This silver medal is made from some sort of silver alloy but we don't know the exact composition of the silver metal alloy used to make it; we aren't metallurgists and cannot be certain. It is not "silver colored". We have no way to determine the specific amount of silver in the alloys used to make these old silver pieces because there are no marks or stamps on them indicating silver alloy content. There is a substantial amount of silver content in their alloy, but exactly how much silver, what percent of the alloy is silver, we honestly can't guess. Alloys are combinations of metals used for practical and artistic reasons such as durability; using 100% of any metal might make the product entirely too soft to endure. It is a beautiful Very old Antique or Vintage Medal. Thanks for looking & HAPPY BIDDING:)

This is known as the Black Madonna. Appears genuine -- if it is it is c.1800,'s and akmost positively silver. The original shrine where the statue was kept after the sainted St. Elizabeth of Hungary gifted it in 1267, the church of St. Martin, still houses it today. The fame of the shrine became even greater thanks to the miraculous help the statue gave during the seige of Halle by a protestant army in 1580. The enemy cannonballs were caught in the folds of the Virgin’s robes and the church and the town were saved. Today, when you visit the church you can see the last 32 of the 500 cannon balls that bombarded the town and you will notice that the Virgin is now a black Madonna as a result of the smoke that enveloped her during the siege.

Hi! Thanks so much for the History on this piece! It is appreciated:) I remember that it was Belgium, now.,For some reason I thought it was bullets but I know now it was cannon balls as you stated! Although I did not know about the "Black Madonna" as She was enveloped by smoke. Again thanks, do much appreciated! Thanks for looking, as well:)
