The wire is a telephone jack connection to the wall, the unit rests in its charger, then when removed from base charger its wireless. the "cord" is the jack to the wall, its 30 feet long so you can plug the base to the walljack, up to 30 feet away from where you have a jack on the wall.the radiophone unit send the signal to the base which is cionnected to a wall jack...otherwise we call that a "cellphone"....

Yes as i said it comes with a connecting cord (to the walljack) and a power supply cord, adapter for ac/wall

No, you pick it up and say hello, or hola or whatever you like, it a phone. we use then in america alot.

The long "cable" doesn't impress, I'd be connecting to my Verizon Home Phone right next to it with my own cord.....Verizon home line, NO inside wiring, unlimited long distance, Call WAiting, Call FW and messages,. all for only $20 a month...ANDddd you can pick up the box and take it with you and get your calls anywhere, and it is NOT a cel phone...I LOVE mine.
