Story of the Space Shuttle Discovery $5 Commemorative Coin was issued by the Republic of the Marshall Islands on the precise date of the Discovery's launch. This cupro-nickel coin is legal tender of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and symbol of the warm regard the Discovery's launch inspired around the world. The observe of the coin shows the Discovery at the moment of liftoff, and bears seven stars to commemorate the seven U.S. astronauts who died aboard the Challenger. The reverse of the coin bears the official seal of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, most famous for it's role as a U.S. staging area during World War II, was granted complete independence by the U.S. in 1986. It issues it's own currency, which parallels U.S. currency in denominations and value. Appropriately, a U.S. base on the Islands has been America's staunchest allies in the western Pacific.
I do not have the package it cam in because when my daughter was little she got a hold of it and ripped it up.
