The listing, Cherokee/Navajo/Fetish Indian necklace has ended.
I got this a few years back at a pow wow, I was told the necklace was made of real animal bone ( white ). this is a pretty heavy necklace with a turtle ( mother of earth) and misc beads along with the animal bone. Now for the life of me I cannot remember what animal the bones were from I dont even know if they told me.It has no metal on it it ties around the neck. if you have any questions please ask. i ship once a week, to listia verified address's only. if an address is sent to me through email it will be ignored and credits will be forfeited- please read listia rules before bidding. thank you for stopping by my auction, and have a great day
Questions & Comments
I fan you please fan me back. I live in mich also and Im blackfoot indian and chipawa. i'll be watching.
please... if you have only rude thing to say please post them some were else. I do not leave rude comments on other people's auction so I want the same for mine. if you dont like the item then dont bid and move on. you do not need to be rude. Listia is fun and I would like to keep it that way. as far as the comment from PGJ > there is no need to make fun of someone's back ground, were they came from, who they are. We were all put on this earth by the same maker. so because of your rudeness of others I have blocked you from all my auctions. If you do not like Indians.. then dont bid, leave, no need for your nasty comment
That is a wonderful necklace. I have 6 rescued tortoises, and the necklace (though called a turtle) would have a special meaning for me. F&W, and will bid for sure. :)
the meaning of turtle within the Indians is mother of earth, so you have alot of that with your 6 rescues. wonderful dear good luck to you and happy bidding
The long beads are called bone hairpipe and traditionally were made from buffalo horn. I believe they are still available but now there are imitation hairpipe beads made from of all things - shell. I work in traditional (or try to work in ...) Indian designed jewelry and try to keep the components as original as possible. It's a lovely piece. Shame on anyone who disrespects the American Indian.
thank you so much for the information, and your support. I have learned so many different things from my Indian friends and the people who support the heritage. thank you again :-))
thank you, i'm not sure what the turtle is made of, I think maybe some sort of stone cause it has weight to it, but not sure. thank you for asking though, and your interest. :-))
This is so cute!!! I've been really getting into my native American heritage lately...I'm Cherokee and iroquois. You wouldn't believe me if you saw me....I'm white as a sheet! Lol but my great grandfather had one of the most distinct Indian noses you've ever seen and my dads moms last name was Shortsleeves. I also have been told that I have the sneakiness of the Indian lol Im really good at sneaking up on ppl lol Oh and who said something mean about Indians??? Whoop their butt!
you sneaky little devil, :-)) i wish you luck if you choose to bid, everyone better watch out cause you may just sneak right in there and get that last bid :-))
beautiful piece.. turtle is my spirit animal.. Choctaw joining the group fanned and watching , pls fan back! AGAREE about RUDE people, and feel pity for them so many nice people on here!t
MUCH APPRECIATED! Just what I was looking for...an HONEST answer..I am a strong believer in honesty in all things...to my own detriment sometimes lol My frieds know, if you do NOT want an honest Opinion/Answer...don't ask me =) also, did you know that you can FLAG rude or inappropriate comments? I just flagged PGJ on yours...this reports it to Listia. IDK if it does any good, but at least we all need to try to "encourage" those who are not respectful of Listia or it's members to re-think their misguided actions..It's right below their post, and I hope everyone on this page flags it too.
If anyone out there is doing traditional handcraft...I would so love to have a mandela...(sp?) I bought one locally (Spokane Indian tribe - but such a mixture from the horrible old days, not sure of the artists tribe, or if they were ever (in known history) the "specialty" of any one tribe. I would be very interested in hearing from artisans...shawndykstra, if you object to this post, please delete. No disrespect intended...oh how I wish they would make an "in search of" category here...
LOVE THIS! Yes, also Indial heritage but way back...and mixed with swede LOL ! can you tell me if the beads are glass or plastic? I am sure the turtle MUST BE carved stone. I have a small, but very precious to me collection of traditional crafts, from any tribe I am lucky enough to go to visit in my travels...I went to Zuni Pueblo for my fetishes, to the Hopi Reservation for their unique double layered silver over silver (top layer has cutouts, showing black on lower), I have met every artisan I purchased from, with one exception, This is a beautiful piece!
The white are suppose to be made of animal bone, as for the smaller beads it is hard for me to tell because the necklace is quite heavy. i am sorry i do not have a def. answer for you. just trying to be as honest as i can be. i do not want to mislead anyone. so sorry i could not be of more help
I have no idea what was said but I'm with you I'm Chahta and make jewelry all the time. Most of the hair pipe is made out of just bone for anything. The way you can tell if the pony beads are glass or plastic run your finger on the bead if it has a ridge it is plastic that's were they put them together. I think it is a beautiful piece. Shame on anyone who talks out of turn. fanned and watching
hi i also realy like this neckless and im also almost fullblooded cherokee and im very proud of it in my opion people should keep there rude and nasty comments to them selves like the saying goes if you dont have nothing nice to say dont say nothing at all
F & W , I have more Cherokee than 1/2 , which should not even be an issue , that rude person should have just went on without a comment , I wanted to tell you Beautiful piece ! , will be watching :) P.S : it would be so cool that if when people were typing rude comments , suddenly superglue was applied to thier fingers while still at keyboard >winks & smiles < , I love humor:)
