The 6 and 8 inches is in width. The 6 is for tots, really. The 8-inch will fit up to a 10-year-old I'd say. I've actually seen a very small adult put on the 8-inch, but it wasn't very attractive...

when you say width do you mean from left to right width? what is the length of them from top to bottom? they all look the same size in the pictures....just wanting to make sure i have an accurate idea of the size of the tops.
