Description

The listing, Lot of Real Wool Fabric Remnants & Scraps-Plaids & More-4 Lbs Total-For Wool Felting, Quilting, Etc. has ended.

This is a large lot of almost 4 pounds of genuine wool and possibly some wool blends. These are small pieces and/or scraps of various plaids, patterns, and solids. Some of these are rectangular partial yardage cuts, and some are scraps that appear to have come from pattern cut-out leftovers. I do think some of these may be blended with another fiber like acrylic, but in doing the "burn test" on some fibers from various ones, I do smell the hair/feather odor as there should be with real wool content. Some of these may felt more than others if you are interested in wool felting as these smaller pieces are often used for. Others might like to piece together a very warm quilt top with more of a "manly" appeal! I'm sure there are lots of uses for these fabrics. I do detect a bit of moth ball faint odor, so I think these were stored as such to prevent moth damage. I am not the original owner, but these apparently did come from a smoke-free home. This is a nice lot, and again, remember it is almost 4 pounds of just the fabric itself without any packaging! Also, I located another red plaid piece that is not pictured but included in the lot. I am offering FREE US shipping on this which is rather heavy, so please bid accordingly to help justify my shipping costs! Thanks for looking, and I would gladly love to combine shipping to help me save on shipping costs and be able to offer more items as well!

Moth Balls can cause cancer. Could you wash the wool well in hot water to see if the smell goes away? If anyone has children this could cause problems.

Moth balls can be made from naphthalene or 1,4-Dichlorobenzene, the latter of which is now more commonly used. I have no way of knowing the history on these items, but going by the fact I do detect a faint odor, and there are no moth holes in the fabrics, I am assuming some type of moth balls were used as a deterrent for insects while in storage. I really would rather the buyer take care of whatever he/she wants done with these fabrics since they may or may not want them felted. Washing them in hot water will begin the felting process in wool. But as for causing cancer, a faint odor from previous storage isn't the same as ingesting moth balls or being exposed to closed-in high levels of fumes as for any carcinogenic effect or dangerous effect. Like any household chemical or pesticide, including bleach, the real dangers come from misuse and/or abuse of the product, such as huffing, ingestion, etc. I would recommend the buyer taking my assumption into consideration that these fabrics were likely stored in some way near moth balls and take appropriate measures as the buyer sees fit upon receipt of the fabrics. Thanks for asking.
