Description

The listing, Ugueth Urbina - 2x All-Star, NL save leader ('99); '93 Fleer #229 Minors Card; MLB's Most Notorious? has ended.

Ugueth Urbina - 2 time All-Star, Led the NL in saves w/41 in the 1999 season; 1993 Fleer #229 Burlington Bees Minor League Card in MINT condition.

Okay, sure Ugueth Urbina is a psychotic, murderous (umm...attempted, nothing successful; he's 2 and 0 on that count w/ two charges of attempted murder) lunatic. However, he was a 2-time All-Star pitcher who is 30th on all-time saves list with 237. A two-time All-Star, Urbina led the National League in saves with 41 in the 1999 season and helped the Florida Marlins win the 2003 World Series. He had a career E.R.A of 3.45 in the majors. Not too shabby. So, if you want to talk about Ugueth's record -- ahhh, I mean the baseball one -- it's pretty impressive. As a human being, not so impressive. Currently serving out his 14 yr term in prison for two attempted murders against his employees who swam in his pool without his permission. If you didn't know the story, he caught them swimming in his pool and tortured them, including pouring gasoline on them and setting them on fire. So now, this is not the guy coming to the hospital promising sick kids he's going to hit a home run for them. But if you're looking to put together a page of sports most notorious players, I think this guy is worthy of a place in your collection.

This card is from Urbina's minor league days with the Burlington Bees, the Oakland Athletic's minor league team. It is in excellent condition.

Teams

Montreal Expos (1995–2001)
Boston Red Sox (2001–2002)
Texas Rangers (2003)
Florida Marlins (2003)
Detroit Tigers (2004–2005)

Career highlights and awards

2× All-Star selection (1998, 2002)
World Series champion (2003)

Lowlights: Sentenced to 14 years in prison for attempted murder (2007)

FTR, I would have added another 6 to the starting bid, but the system wouldn't allow that, hence the starting bid of 66.
