Don't worry, right at the last 15 minutes is when it gets exciting, trust me!!
I found that a lot of times I'll go to sleep at night all sad because no one has bid on something and wake up and it's gone up from 0 to 1000, or even more!!
I use the app on my phone, which doesn't show how many people are watching the auctions, but if you are on the main site, it should show you underneath the # of bids how many people are watching, don't worry, if anything you'll have me :-D
