Description

The listing, Two 1937 Jamaica stamps of Coronation Scott #s 113-14 MH has ended.

Up for auction or GIN are two excellent MH Jamaica stamps showing the coronation of George VI and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon as King and Queen of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Commonwealth and as Emperor and Empress of India, which took place at Westminster Abbey, London, on 12 May 1937.

This coronation was instead of the older brother Edward VIII's succession to the throne upon the death of their father King George V. Edward abdicated the throne to marry his American sweetheart, Wallis Simpson, who was divorced, which was (at that time) not permitted by the Church of England, of whom Edward would have become nominal head.

Please note that Scott #113 has penciled stamp number written on back of stamp. I didn't do it! It does not detract from the front of the stamp.

From a smoke free home. Thank you for bidding!
