Old linen postcard of the Rutledge Tavern in Lincoln's New Salem, Illinois.

"James Rutledge built the Rutledge Tavern probably in the fall of 1828. The tavern was sold to Nelson Alley in 1832, who rented it to Henry Onstott. The tavern changed hands several times and eventually was purcahsed by Jacob Bale thereafter being called the 'Bales House.' Lincoln boarded here, sleeping in the loft. According to legend, it was here he met Ann Rutledge."

The postcard was not mailed and is in good condition with a little dings to the corners.
