6 Vintage Golden All Metal French BUTTON COVERS
Fleur De Lis and Star / Starburst design.

Excellent condition. Minor evidence of age (see photos for close ups). Highly detailed with intriguing design using the Fleur De Lis and star / starburst combination. Resembles custom crests and coat of arms. Historically accurate. Most often used as a decorative design or symbol by the French. Fleur De Lis may be at one and the same time, political, dynastic, artistic, emblematic, and symbolic, especially in heraldry. While the fleur-de-lis has appeared on countless European coats of arms and flags over the centuries, it is particularly associated with the French monarchy in a historical context, and continues to appear in the arms of the King of Spain and the Grand Duke of Luxembourg and members of the House of Bourbon. It remains an enduring symbol of France, although it has never been adopted officially by any of the French republics. The three leaves represent the medieval social classes: those who worked, those who fought and those who prayed. Combined with the stars they are indicative of royalty. Purchased at an estate sale in St. Louis, MO. in 1998. They were hidden away in a box that contained a variety of sewing and embroidery items from a French family that resided there. It is unlikely anyone even knew they were in the box. I don't think they are eons old, but judging from the other items in the box, I would estimate they are probably from the 1950s or 1960s. They're all heavy duty gold toned metal. Unfortunately, no markings of any kind.
Would make a fascinating addition to your personal collection, or give as a gift. Would look amazing framed with ornate French brocade.
FREE shipping, of course.
