Is this a hardcover book. Are there any rips/ torn pages? Does it come from a smoke free home?

There are no rips or anything. There are some stains on the side.
As for the smoking issue, my husband vapes in the next room from where the books usually are but all my books have had other owners. My nose isn't very sensitive, but all I smell on the book is potting soil.
