Description

The listing, Dragonfruit Plant: White colored pulp fruit has ended.

Up for bid is one well rooted cutting from my white fruited dragonfruit vine (it is a vine that is shaped into a tree- just found out so I will most likely have a few cuttings later in the season (if they dont get snatched up by the neighbors)as I try to take the tangled mess and shape it),
More info about these vining cactus that bloom at night and produce tasty edible fruit can be found here
http://www.vivapitaya.com/grow.htm
Also, the picture is of the actual plant you will receive. the base is the cutting and the 3 leaves (for lack of a better word or possibly links) are the new growth the cutting has put off. Once in a big pot and in a sunny location this bby should really take off. Mine live outdoors except for the winter but I have found that many people grow these as houseplants.

Well, it tastes like dragonfruit... and I cant equivicate it to anything else. There are a few teas that are carried at the grocery store that use dragonfruit for flavoring and they are pretty close but just like canned pineapple doesnt taste like a freshly sliced ripe one...it's the same thing, but you could get an idea anyway. Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Jenny! I didn't grow mine from seed, I bought cuttings and it took a couple of months for them to root but then the Lil guys took off putting on 10 links or so each. I lost 2 to over watering as they are a subtropical cactus. If I were going to try and grow these from seed, I would plant them incoconut coir and loosely cover the put with a plastic bag to keep the humidity high until they sprouted then let the dirty dry out between waterings. They put off still roots to collect moisture or dew and respond well to misting when in doors. Good luck with both this auction and with your seed babies...

I have been bidding on almost every dragonfruit plant that I have seen on Listia for the last year and I always lose the auction at the very end. Lol But I am bidding on this one too haha. We will see what happens. I really really want to try my hand at growing one of these and eating the fruit.

Good luck with this auction...it happens to me a lot too...lol. I think I got it and then bam...it is gone like that! I think that it may be part of the fun though because most can be purchased elsewhere but not"won". No worries check back because have the pink pulp, purple pulp and white pulp dragonfruit, and they all need form so I should have cuttings and or rooted plants. This one is from a piece that broke off when I moved it outside for the spring and if I had not ha a 4"put ready and there it would have gone to the compost pile, so I will post up any others that break and those I trim. thanks for bidding!

Haha my (not so) smart phone keeps thinking I mean to say "put" instead of "pot". Oh and it is they put off aerial roots (still??)

I think dragon fruit tastes like kiwi but firmer. Very good. I would love to grow my own, because they are rather pricey at the grocery store.

To me, I think they are different to the point that I can't say that, but then again the husband and I argue about the veggies and fruits all the time... Definitely both are tropical in general...thanks for the comment though because I am terrible in describing flavor for sure...
