Hi I have a Black Apple iPhone 3G 8GB Up for auction! It was used with AT&T but might be able to use with another phone provider?
When I turn it on it says connect to iTunes. I don't know what happened to it? It was working fine. So I would say its for repair its stuck in recovery mode. I'm not good with fixing computer or cellphone stuff! There are some light scratches from normal wear, Also there is a small crack at the bottom on the back of the phone. You could fix it if your good at fixing phones, or use it for parts.

Have you tried actually connecting it to iTunes and then formating it through iTunes? Or Pressing the Home button and sleep button on the top at the same time until it restores itself? Just giving you some possible troubleshooting tips if you haven't tried those things.

(Not sure if you have tried this) You can plug it into the computer, go to "My computer" there will then be a list of all the things plugged into your computer (Including anything in the usb port) you click on the one that would be your iphone (Eaisier to recognize if it is the only thing plugged in) You click on it and edit the properties so that the computer recognized it as a music device instead of a camera, usb drive or something like that. Then manually open itunes while it is still plugged in.
