This is a circulated example of Freidberg Number 1619* series 1957 Silver Certificate One Dollar Star Replacement note. A star or sometimes called replacement note is a note that the BEP prints to replace either single error notes or whole sheets. The BEP will remove and destroy any notes that are not correct or ruined, they use these replacement notes, indicated by a star instead of a letter at the beginning or end (on modern notes) of the serial numbers, to fill the gaps. Although some error notes make it out into circulation they do a good job of preventing that from happening.

Star notes generally have a higher premium because so few are printed, For 1957 it was recorded that 307,640,000 were printed compared to 2,609,600,000 regular notes. There were 4 blocks of star notes in 30 groups with 479 print runs.
