The listing, Vintage Lighter In Brass With Scrimshaw has ended.

This Vintage Lighter is made of Brass and what looks like scrimshaw with initials
SLW and a Ship with Mast - It is signed but the writing is hard to read - The first name looks to be Samuel and the last starts with a 'K'. The back says 'Brass # 5'. The function of the lighter is questionable as I put a flint in and didn't get a light - Don't know any of the provenience of the lighter or if it is indeed scrimshaw but it looks like someone went to the trouble of putting their initials on it so I think it speaks for itself - it does clean up nicely with brass cleaner -

Doubtful that this is real scrimshaw, but a cool vintage lighter all the same! May be from the 70's, when they outlawed the importing of ivory goods and reproductions were made.
