no gel needed.... you just put it against your tummy about the same place the doctor always does and you can hear the heartbeat clear as day and also hear the baby moving around :)

I agree! and it is very worth it :) I am a worry wart and just wanted to know that my baby was ok and thats why I got this... I am nearing my due date now so I don't have any use for it since I am going in to the doctor ever 2wks :) good luck and happy bidding!
