Real 550 paracord has a braided outer sheath and 7 inner strands with a total tensile strength of 550 lbs. The braided outer sheath has a tensile strength rated at about 200 pounds. It is durable yet yielding making it good for wrapping knife handles, spear grips, slings, etc. The paracord's 7 inner strands have a tensile strength rated at about 50 pounds each. The strong inner strands can be used for fishing line, lashings, tying up gear, and countless other uses.

In survival situations the paracord can be unwoven and used for all kinds of things including, lashing together a shelter, sewing tears in clothing, making a bow saw for fire starting, tourniquets, splints, etc. Anything that you can think of, where rope/cord/string is needed, Paracord can be used.
