The listing, DARRYL STRAWBERRY 12 card lot has ended.
Darryl Strawberry was one of the most popular players of the 1980s and 1990s. He was 8-time All-Star and 2-time Silver Slugger who was the NL Rookie of the Year in 1983 with the N.Y. Mets. Arrested throughout his career for everything from cocaine to soliciting sex from a police officer, the public never turned on Darryl, who even became one of the first athlete-musicians when he rapped with the popular group UTFO on a track you can hear here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ol75BB7ly4k
Darryl played with the Mets, Yankees, Dodgers and Giants during his career. He was diagnosed with colon cancer in 1998. He made a comeback, but his playing career ended in 1999 with the Yankees. He finished with 335 HR, including over 25 eight times, and exactly 1000 RBI while stealing over 220 bases, while playing on 3 WS championship teams.

About these auctions:
The "Unsung Heroes" lots celebrate retired MLB players (who were still active after 1980) who were either very popular or put up sensational career numbers without garnering election to the Hall of Fame. These are Cy Young Winners, MVPs, guys with over 2000 hits, guys with 300+ homeruns, hometown heroes, you name it. Many of them deserved induction into the Hall, some stayed on the ballot for years, and came up just short.
If there is an "Unsung Hero" who you'd like to see featured in a lot, let me know. I have an extensive collection here to select from, and so long as I am able, I can get together a lot of your favorite player to put on here.
