Langston Hughes (1902-67)
Known best for his work during the “Harlem Renaissance,” Langston Hughes was an American poet, playwright, newspaper columnist, and author. Hughes’ work focused on the strength, courage, and humor of African-Americans. Hughes opposed U.S. involvement in World War II and embraced some socialist ideals. His views were a result of racism rather than politics, and Hughes later distanced himself from some of his early writings.
