The root of all magickal theory..., July 1, 2008
Amazon review by PinkNoiseWaltz
This review is of: The Black Arts: A Concise History of Witchcraft, Demonology, Astrology, and Other Mystical Practices Throughout the Ages
Let me begin by saying that although this book mostly covers the theories behind so-called "black magic" (i.e., goetic magic, imitative magic, demonology, "devil worship") this book is an essential read for any serious occultist, especially one involved or interested in becoming involved in any of the Wester Mystery traditions, as it will fill in many gaps. This well-researced and well-written book contains excellent chapters on the root of magical theory, the "Great Work", The Kabbalah, Natal Astrology, Mundane Astrology, The Tarot, Demonology & Ritual Magic, as well as past accounts of supposed "devil worship" and black magic in European royal courts and clergy, and much more. The reader herein will find no spells or ceremonies, but this book will definetly set ground and fill in gaps for any would-be practicing magician. Definetly and very highly recommended.
