Do you need an I pod to used these, or is this an I Pod in itself? Not up on this stuff anymore!!! So it's for either a boy or a girl?

You do not need an ipod to use these. They are for any i carly fan. On the show I carly the kids do "random dancing" on their webshow. The random dance pod mimics this while the Back Wordz is a voice changer. All that is needed is some batteries (which are included in the remotes themselves). I hope this helps.
