20 GB will fit the OS and software you can always use External for Data storage via USB. Only thing is you won't be able to install anything else other than XP on it. Just as a note.

You can put windows 7 on this as well. I know because my husband used a 20gb when he rebuilt a laptop. Thanks for the info.

yeap you probably could but i as a tech wouldn't really recommend it. better off with at least a 40 GB with 7/Vista. XP don't take up as man GB as Vista or 7. So that is why i didn't suggest them. I have noted the HDD requirements below for Vista and 7:

Windows 7 HDD Requirements:
16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

Windows Vista HDD Requirements:
40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space (20 GB for Home Basic)

Just trying to help :)

I use small drives like this to backup data. I hook up with my atapi bridge then move whole folders like Family or event photo's to it. Then unhook it, label it and put it in a safe place. Better than backing up to DVD's. F&W Thanks!

Wow I like that Idea as well. That is a lot better then dvd's as long as they are in a safe place they will last a long time. Great idea. Thanks fanned back
