The listing, 40gb Ipod. Not working (1) has ended.

This is an old 40gb ipod. Screen works but the only thing I get is the apple logo and the ipod with the sad face.

Repeatedly hold the menu and center buttons until the apple logo come up and ask you to sync to the computer. If this works, I will bid higher

When I hold the buttons the apple logo comes up it goes like its going to the next screen and a line goes across the screen then goes away.

Toggle the Hold switch on and off (set it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least six seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.
Connect the iPod to your computer; the screen on the iPod will should say "Do not disconnect".

I never got to disk mode I just get the contact apple suppost screen.

then put back into normal operating state:

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
