Description

The listing, Vintage Bakelite? Buttons has ended.

I believe this pair of buttons are bakelite. They are a light tan/yellow with a smokey black swirl. Please refer to pictures. They do have what looks to be 2 small pin holes on the back of the buttons. They measure 1 1/4 inches around.

I tried the hot water and I am still unsure. I am going to buy some Simichrome polish and see if that works. I just bought a tin full of old buttons from an estate sale and I will be posting a bunch more for auction. Some I believe to be Bakelite and I want to make sure I know before I post any auctions. So check back in a few days ladies... you will like what you see!!!!!

If you put them in super hot water.... if they are bakelite they should smell like formaldehyde. otherwise it's not bakelite....I hope that helps :)

Or if you have Simichrome metal polish, you wipe them with the polish and a white cloth and if it leaves a yellowish residue on the cloth they are bakelite
