History of Thomas MINIS

Mattel released a new range of Thomas trains in 2015 called MINIS in celebrations of the In 2015, Mattel released a brand new Thomas and Friends toy range called MINIS, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Thomas & Friends.

This new range features numerous characters in a variety of different themes. MINIS are small sized, each acquiring a 4-wheeled chassis configuration and a hook and loop coupling system. Tender engines have their tenders moulded onto the overall unit, behind their cabs and boilers. The two primary methods of distribution for the MINIS are blind bags and visible packs. The blind bags have individual codes to identify and distinguish which bag contains which Mini. The blind bag releases in 2015 were split into 4 separate waves, released gradually throughout the year, each with its own unique set of MINIS. Play-sets with exclusive MINIS and various multi-packs were also released in parts of the world, gradually becoming available internationally during the end of 2015 and early 2016.

The themes released in 2015 were: Classics, Robo, Dino, Chillin', Racers, Old School, Neon, Spooky and Metallic, with Christmas and Warriors joining the line-up during the end of the year, as exclusive MINIS to 2 multi-packs. Mattel also released a cross-over theme, DC Super Friends, that included multiple characters dressed up as various Superheroes and Supervillains from the DC Comics range.
