You are welcome & thank you for your interest. Unfortunately, I am unable to decipher 19th century cursive German. Maybe one of our German Listia friends can. If so, their help would be appreciated. Thanks again and have a happy stamping day.
You too! I'm guessing "ca suivant espere", meaning, as we would say, keep the faith or literally "the next hope". Of course this is purely a very wild guess. But an interesting stamp.
Thanks again for your insight. It is note worthy to point out that following two major wars, the Austrian and the Franco-Prussian, and the unification of the German States, that this stamp was most likely used fiscally by the then newly formed German Empire. And to point out its close resemblance to the North German Confederation Scott #25. Happy stamping to you my friend.
I think I see the date of '80 on it, so you are most likely right that it was used by the new German Empire. It is interesting how closely it resembles the North German Federation stamp 25! Only the text is different. Now I need one of those for my states specialty collection! I have the 24 but not the costly 25. Thanks for the history!
