i wonder if this would work with dog food bags?

Considering the thickness of the bags that the manufacturer uses for dog foods, it will not work the way you are envisioning it. But what you can do is to put the dog food in another bag, it would then be possible to pour out your dog food. You will most definitely have to play around with this in order to see what options work best for you.

Well, you do still need to win this auction first or else you will not be able to test out any of your theories at all. :o)
