The listing, S.S. Cairndhu Real Photo Postcard SHIP circa 1950 has ended.
Up for bid is a real photo postcard of the S.S. Cairndhu, probably from around 1950–52. It is unposted. Condition is very good!
There have been four ships with this name, and I have eliminated the first two.
*Cairndhu (1) 1885 1911 sold to Sweden renamed Orsa.
*Cairndhu (2) 1911 1917 torpedoed and sunk off Beachy Head; loss of 12 lives.
*Cairndhu (3) 1919 1935 sold to Greece renamed Strymon.
*Cairndhu (4) 1952 1965 chartered to Manchester Liners renamed Manchester Exporter, 1969 sold to Greece renamed Gemini Exporter.
I'm thinking it may be S.S. Cairndhu #4. The back says (in the stamp area) that postage is 1½d, "If with only 5 words of greeting". It also says guaranteed real photograph.
If you collect ship postcards, or just transportation items in general, this is a nice item for your collection!
