The listing, 1/2 PINT Milk BOTTLE 1940s Thatcher Glass Co BROOKMEAD GUERNSEY DAIRIES Wayne PA has ended.
Up for auction is a vintage embossed, half pint milk bottle from Brookmead Guernsey Dairies, Wayne, PA. It is as purchased from a charity sale.
Bottle was made by Thatcher Glass Manufacturing Company, (logo on bottom). It was estimated to be from 1940s, and all the information I could find mentioning this Dairy was from the 1930s (mainly newspaper ads) and 1940s (Guernsey Breaders Journals), so I feel this is a fair estimate of age.
Embossed on the front is Brookmead Guernsey Dairies, Wayne, Pa., with a Guernsey cow head. Also embossed is "sealed II PA." and Half Pint Liquid. There are also the numbers 11 5 along the bottom front edge.
On the underside base in raised glass molding is a large central "B". There is a small circle at the center of the B which looks like it has either letters or numbers inside the circle, but even with a loop it is unable for me to tell.
Nice bottle, but it does show wear. There are a few flea bites and a chip on the inner top rim (see arrow) but not through to the outside rim , some rough spots and minor surface wear (most likely from other milk bottles rubbing against during deliveries).
Not perfect, but that said, it is nice, and I don't think a common bottle, so still very worthy of collecting.
Stands just under 5-1/2" high. Item is as found,
