A mistrike is a mistake made by the mint when the coin is made. It can be such things as a double strike, an offcenter image or a variety of other defects.

Part of In God We Trust and part of 1971 are missing
nice... This is not a a "mis-strike". This is a GREAT example of a deteriated die - this coin was minted in the VERY late stage of a a die set... shortly after this coin was struck these dies were retired.
