what does a walking foot do? I am new at some of the new gadgets, and I have a machine that was my mothers, that doesn't have these things.

It is basicly used when sewing layers of fabric, like making quilts. The foot has feed dogs that work with your machine's feed dogs to push the layers of material thru. Hope that helps :)
