One tip that helps me, is when I am about to meet someone new, I think back at a time when I did something really empowering. For me, I was at a water park, and there was a little girl, who somehow was allowed to go down a water slide, but she was much too little for the "you must be this tall to ride the slide" sign. I noticed she was flailing about after coming out, and wasn't coming up, she just kept sinking down. I looked over to the life guard on duty, who was busy talking to someone about the park rules, and was preoccupied. I looked around. Nobody was noticing. Everyone seemed to be happy chatting or on their way to another ride. I've always been an excellent swimmer so I dove in and swam down to the little girl. I was a little surprised when she clenched on like crazy, but I know she was in shock and couldn't swim, and was grabbing out for anything. I swam her back to the shallow end. I asked if she was okay. She finally got enough air to breathe normal, and wiped her eyes from crying from experiencing such an emotional event. It was very odd, she said nothing, just stared at me with the biggest thank you eyes I've ever seen, then gave me a tight hug, looked at me one last time, then ran off. I think of the look in her eyes, the absolute thanks she was projecting at me, and I feel empowered, and confident. I feel so good to have helped someone survive something so scary. I feel proud. I run that story through my mind a few times before meeting someone new, and believe it or not, it truly helps!
Maybe you have never saved someone's life, but I'm sure you have some moment in your life you can look back on, and gain confidence from. This is just one tip that helps me. More tips inside this .pdf
