Collecting coins and currency is fun & potentially very profitable. Of all the type of collectibles within the currency area, "FANCY" SERIAL NUMBERS are growing the fastest. There are many different types of "Fancy" serial numbers that are collectible & interesting. Here is one definition of a "Fancy" S/N:
"Fancy is a generic term for bills where the main attraction is an interesting S/N..."
Here are the main types of "Fancy" S/N's:
> Binary: S/N that has only 2 digits in the S/N - 55555553, 12121111
> Birthday: S/N that has a date - 20001120 = November 20th, 2000
> High: S/N is a $1 bill with a S/N that starts with 96, 97, 98 or 99: 98891234
> Ladder: S/N in some sort of ascending or descending order. 12345678 is a perfect "up" ladder & 76543210 is a perfect "down" ladder. After the perfect ladders, the ladder is in the eye of the beholder
> Low: S/N w/4 or more zero's at the beginning - 00000001 to 00009999
> Radar: S/N reads the same in either direction, just like the word radar does. 12344321, 54988945
> Repeater: S/N repeats a pattern, typically 2 or 4 times - 12341234, 45034503, 27272727
> Solid: S/N with all eight digits are the same - 55555555
> Semi-Solid: S/N with 5 or more of the eight digits are the same & in a row - 11111333 or 65777777
> Zip Code: S/N matches a valid US Zip code & starts with 3 zeros. Ex: 00021701 is the zip code for Frederick, MD
