The listing, Burgundy Cockscomb 35+ Seeds of this Striking Heirloom Flower has ended.
This is for 35+ seeds of Burgundy Cockscomb (Celosia cristata) flower. This amazingly, beautiful heirloom flower has a very interesting story. Celosia comes from the Greek kelos meaning “burned” referring to the color of the prototypical flower. Native throughout the tropics, it was the dark burgundy-colored C. cristata that was first introduced into Europe in 1570.
Cockscomb loves the sun. It prefers warmth & likes a generous root area. The roots must be kept moist, if the plant dries out the flowers will tend to drop. They are easy to grow from seed & do well in pots as well as in the garden. Hardy & resistant to most diseases, they prefer full sun & well-drained soil. The leaves & young flowers are used as vegetables in India, West Africa and South America. Here in America it is used mainly for garden borders for its striking colors and flower arrangements, both fresh and dried as the flower retains its vibrant burgundy wine color when dried.
I have include some pictures of wreathes made from this gorgeous plant. This plant is dried easily & is as bright & beautiful dried as it is alive, adding striking color to your garden. Also some of these wreathes combine the dried Cockscomb & dried Lamb's Ear which I also have listed, both grow well from seed.
With all the seed included in this auction, you should have plenty of plants to create all your projects. I always send extra seed too, not just a few, but a generous amount. Anyone that has ever won an auction of mine can tell you I send a lot of seed. All fresh from this year.
