FREE: Vintage Chess Pieces - complete set

Here is a very old - perhaps 50 years? - set of hard plastic chess pieces that came from an estate sale. They are in a old, damaged maroon-colored box that has a neat-looking embossed design of a golden knight on a horse. Snap closure box. Please enlarge pictures to see details.

Box measures 9 x 4-1/2 inches. King measures 2-3/4 inches and pawn a little over 1-1/4 inches.

The box is very damaged - it was torn and taped back together. The chess pieces themselves, 16 of each color, are in good unbroken condition. The white ones have some yellowing and marks consistent with age. One of the red pieces was missing its felt pad bottom, but I replaced it with a new pad. Otherwise I think all the felt pads are original.

When I opened the box I noticed a strong musty smell. I cleaned the box out as much as I could, and wiped each chess piece, but there is still an "old" smell, probably because of those absorbent felt pads. Just wanted to warn you!

But, it's still a neat set! It would be fun to make a board to go with this.
