AMAZING! A TAG OR LICENSE, a metal tag or license that has "J.L. Jewett Post Trader Fort Thompson Dakota Territory Crow Indian Agency" on one side. The other side has "1861 One Buffalo Robe U.S. Office Indian Affairs Licence 81". The tag or license measures 1 3/4 inches tall and a 1/2 inch wide. Traditional Crow shelters and clothing were made with buffalo hide as well as being the main source of meat. Therefore, the buffalo was an important part of the tribes daily life. The Crow Indian agency is an administrative office of the Bureau of Land Management that distributes hunting licenses for the indians.
