A miracle invention for the McGuyver types. It can be used as emergency shoelace, belt and general lashing of any kind. Also, can be used as a tourniquet for arterial bleeding. The uses are only limited by your creativity.
Paracord is made of 7 strands of inner cord with 50 pound test for each strand and 200 pound test for the nylon outer sheath for a total 550 pound test (hence the 550 in the name).
It can easily be cut and resealed back together with a cigarette lighter and still retain over 100 pounds of test if done right.
Not sure how true it is, but I have heard tale of someone making a temporary fan belt with it. It really wouldn't surprise me. In diversity its up there with duct tape and bailing twine! Everyone should carry at least a 25' length of it in your car, or hiking pack at all times.
