The listing, V mail postmarked 1943 War & Navy Dept has ended.
This is a letter sent to the US from a serviceman somewhere in India. It was written and photocopied small to be sent so it would not take up as much room as a normal sized letter during WW2. The envelope is 3 3/4" by 4 3/4". It is aged and brown. You need a magnifying glass to read the letter! Thanks for looking! I send next day if I have your address. I recycle shipping supplies.
This is the actual letter that was sent from a serviceman overseas to the US. During WW 2, they photocopied most letters sent to and from service people so they would not take up as much room.
How did you come to having a unique piece of history? Do you know if the letter ever got to the original addressee? A gorgeous piece of American history. I too had relatives fighting in WWII, but they were in Paris fighting in the trenches. A ll but one made it back safe and sound. I come to be given my uncle's bayonete that was taken from a German solder, he never talked about how he got, just that he had taken it. You have something that should be cherished for a lifetime, not many of our men made it back. Makes me wonder about the ultimate outcome of this serviceman. F&W and bidding. Happy Thanksgiving too.
I got this with a bunch of old papers at a local garage sale, didn't even see it until I went through the papers. It was addressed to a town 25 miles away, so I think it probably made it there. My dad was in the war too, would not talk about it much. Happy Thanksgiving!
