Will it work on a iPod 4gen?

It works with my husbands iphone 4. And my ipod 4 used the same charger. It plugs into the device in the same place the charger does.The way it plugs in is, one end plugs into the charging port on the device then on the other end it has a spot for the charger and a spot for the HDMI cord.
