It reflects the hot sun's rays in the summer. So it bounces back away from the window. Keeping it cooler inside, This is great if you have a window that is in the suns direct path during the day. I use these and they really work.

In the winter it keeps the heat in. There is a shiny side and a dull side. In the summer the shiny side needs to face out. In the winter it needs turned around.
It hangs on a sash or tension rod, or how ever you can get it to stay. I am using paper clips. and it works.

Material should not come in contact with Moist windows. It is a thin foil like material.
