Well, it is soft for sure...and I called it sweater because if you look close you can see the ribbing (not flat like a sweatshirt) and more drapey (for lack of a better word) than a sweatshirt. and it is dark black.

They have sold it as unisex in stores like Hot Topic, etc...It has no distinctions like lapels, or darts...I'm not just saying this- but it can be for either sex. I will say this this - I wear a large (12) in women's, but wear the medium in this...which makes me feel it's made for young men-but I don't mind wearing men's clothing if it's cute :).
ALSO, the sleeves are nice and long and it roomy even though it's cut slim. Again, this makes me thing of a young mans sizing. You know like American Apparel or Urban Outfitters sizing for men. It's sweet though.
