Brandon161, I hope the Lister doesn't mind me answering your question. I just did a search. Essayons et Faisons means Let Us Try And Let Us Do, and was a WWII campaign motto for the 54th Engineering Battalion. These pins are called Distinctive Unit Insignias, and if authentic and not reproductions, are from 1950. Pretty cool!
