How can somebody commit to a shipping expense, if they don't know how much that expense is ?

that is they way i have been doing it and it has worked out just fine but personally these comments are going to make me go to flat rate stuff and you will be paying a lot more for stuff, which is why i do it this way. don't like the way i have it set up dont bid. thanks for looking
