Description

The listing, Celluloid Ring pre-WWII has ended.

I bought this from an elderly lady that said her father brought it from Japan. it is very beautiful and I am pretty sure it is a 7 or 6 1/2. I will ship the day of or day after auction ends with tracking. Maybe it will make it for Christmas that way.

Love these! But its not Ivory!!!! It is celluloid. I have a small collection and this is a wonderful example. Japan produced these into the late 1950's. Bidding!

Although I'm bidding I wanted to add that bracelets are common but not rings.

Thanks for letting me know. i bought quite a few ivory pieces from a lady. Many of them had authenticity papers, but not this one. I was only going by her word. I did notice that this one does not look porous like the other pieces, so I wondered. It is stamped Japan on the back. Thanks. I will change it.

Celluloids are a class of compounds created from nitrocellulose and camphor, with added dyes and other agents. Generally regarded to be the first thermoplastic, it was first created as Parkesine in 1862[1] and as Xylonite in 1869, before being registered as Celluloid in 1870. Celluloid is easily molded and shaped, and it was first widely used as an ivory replacement. It was not used at all after the 1950's.
