seller says that the phone is unlocked.

That usually means GSM phone which is AT&T.

a Verizon or Sprint phone are definitely NOT unlocked as they can only be used on that carrier unlike a GSM phone.

What model is this?

Click on Settings > General > About and tell me what is there for "Model" and "Version"

I just took a 4g to a local service provider and he unlocked it for free just becasue i signed up with net10 through him. 52 dollars a month unlimited everything. It isnt crap to unlock a phone. I wouldnt recommend listing your serial numner and imei number for anyone . At&t phones are completely unlockable. If it would of been a non sim card phone, then it would matter!
