Description

The listing, California Gold Coin Tokens has ended.

These are four California Gold Rush tokens, just a bit smaller than the size of an American dime...(of course I have a picture of them beside a dime, but who knows where it is hiding on my computer) I am offering all four of these together. Since the picture isn't really clear, I will describe them the best I can...they are designed like the old 2 1/2 Indian dollar coins...with the Chief in Headdress, and on the reverse it says California Gold. As for the content of the coins, I am uncertain on the gold content..but they are dated about 1852.
I do not ship outside the U.S.A. and shipping on this listing is free.
Thanks

Of course, I know they are not solid gold, however I find them quite interesting due their relative design to the $2.50 gold Indian coins produced in the 1800's. I also find it rewarding to share an important piece of American history; certainly a qualifying factor. Any item whitch does have significant gold or silver content, which these tokens do not, are required to be marked as such. These items carry the phrase "California Gold" on the reverse, and do contribute to learning more about national heritagel I also offer them because they are cute!~a possible item for one with the creativity to prepare and use themI have seen dresses with this type of ornamental design that are quite attractive. It is, I guess, a matter of taste...and I did not profess that they were gold..honestly pointing out that metal content is unknown. Thank you for the information, though. I have done some research on items such as this myself and know that some are quite "real" gold, and are marked appropriately for their content. I collect many things for many reasons...and reaspms are not always aparent to others.I do not seek wealth, especially here on Listia...I am doing this for fun. Honestly, money is not my burden; my father left me quite well off when he passed away, as did my husband's mother, so the MONEY is irrelivant to me, so you have no reason to feel that you are delivering news of tremendous disapointment. I don't often deal with items ignorantly; my father would be rolling in his grave to think that I was frittering away the inheritence with which I was entrusted..however, according to his philanthropolic policies, giving to others would give him joy and a feeling of pride that he raised me with high moral standard that has been passed down like a fine family heirloom. Sometimes the mystery of these listings is the fun, Thank you very much for addressing this issue, and I commend you for your effort to research the items; and thank you kindly for the comment!

I wondered about them and after I went through my books I found out what the real ones look like and I thought that you would be interested in learning about this. I have always wanted a large date cent from way back when, My every chance to own one has eluded me . Someday I hope to have one. I do have some interesting roman or greek coins and I have no idea as to their value. I like them though. I appreciate the post. I will fan you. You seem really nice.

Thank you, I will do likewise. Exactly what date and type of cent is it you are looking for? I know there were different size coins in the distant past...is that what you refer to? If so, let me know, if it is something different let me know that as well, for we may have access to it, or know someone who is willing to part with it...we do know some others who do collect unusual pieces. Thanks!

Thank you, will do the same. As for the greek and roman coins, unfortunately they lack the value expected
My husband has collected coins since his childhood, thus has much more knowledge than I on the subject, however I gained considerable education by joining the Numistatic Society several years ago, Their publications and seminars not only offer knowledge, but also an opportunity to meet others who share your passion, Frequently you find an opportunity to connect with a special coin that has eluded you. My personal favorite, a $20 gold St. Gaudens 1852 O, held the most excitment and intrigue of our collection, unfortunately we foolishly sent it to a professional appraiser where it got sold instead of returned. Though we were substantialy compensated, the coin was gone without means to recover such a rare specimen.
Again, though, these California gold tokens are sold as exumenia in hope that they will reach hands that want education of the fun and value of collecting coins. The new coins today are rarely collectible due to the cheap alloy metals as well as the flood of new coins and errors. Hopefully our grandchildren's inheritences being in trusts will prevent them losing all benefit before they recognize the true value in life is truth and love of family and friends and the obligation to uphold the values instilled into their parents...as I said, we have imposed the utmost stress upon each upcoming generation to realize that the true value in life is honesty, generosity and always doing the right thing especially when it means following the hardest road. Thank you for your comments, and I do hope that you will find that special coin one day...and if you do so, I advise making the additional investment of time and funds by having it graded professionally by NGCS or another reputible grading service. You will not regret the additional prestige and value it adds to your collection. Good luck, and God Bless..
