The game is single player (That refers to the campaign/story mode)
Network or "online" the game is up to 8 players...
You cannot play the game in Network (online) mode without an online pass...
Most game development companies are now forcing players to purchase Online Passes to play the mulitiplayer for their games... Buying these Online Passes off of the Playstation Network or XBOX Live runs between $9.99- $19.99 depending on the game...

So correct me if I'm wrong is this the game or is it just the online multi player add on from on line? Sorry I'm confused. I got the ps3 need for speed got prosuit but its only one player. I would really love a two player racing game. F&W! Happy New Years!

It is the Online Mulitplayer Pass... It also includes some Limited Edition cars for the game that you can use offline and online.
I own "Hot Pursuit" for the PS3 also, I actually own all the Need for Speed games on the PS3... And Unfortunately none of them, atleast none of the ones that have come out in the past few years are offline multiplayer... In actuality, most racing games that are made for the current PS3 and XBOX 360 are only online multiplayer... And now they are forcing you to use these Online Passes to even do that... These passes cost between $9.99 and $19.99 on the Playstation Network and XBOX Live Store...
